Zeolite/Chitosan/Gelatin Films: Preparation, Supercritical CO <sub>2</sub> Processing, Characterization, and Bioactivity

Chitosan/gelatin and chitosan/gelatin/zeolite films prepared by solvent casting method are impregnated with a mixture of thymol carvacrol using green solvent, supercritical carbon dioxide at 35 °C 30 MPa, during 18 h. Proposed enables preparation biocompatible biodegradable blends strong antioxidant antibacterial activity, whereby amounts loaded thymol/carvacrol (TC) in the range from 3.3% to 6%. After initial burst release, both types exhibit gradual release bioactive compounds, around 72% 96% TC released water phosphate buffered saline solution (pH 7.4) tested period 10 days, respectively. Results vapor transmission rate (>76 g m−2 day−1) confirm that composites suitable for wound dressing application. Thermal analysis shows superior properties compared control samples. In addition, mechanical structural properties, as well solubility swelling behavior obtained investigated detail.
